 What is 'Listening'?

Although we spend all day hearing the voices of people talking and things happening all around us, there is a big difference between just hearing and really listening.

The Volunteers at Wavelength use reflective listening skills to enable them to really hear what is being said and felt by others. As well as giving people relief by allowing them time and space to talk freely about their concerns it can also help people think more carefully about what is troubling them.

Alongside careful listening and reflecting back what has been said, the sensitive use of appropriate questions can help someone to clarify their thinking and choices and help them to find acceptable ways forward for themselves or to identify any further help they might need.

Listening is NOT counselling which is a more in depth process of helping people to overcome personal difficulties by talking, exploring, understanding and changing how they see themselves.

At the current time Wavelength does not offer a counselling service, but may be able to help you access counselling if this is required.
